Sonas Cottage In a loch by the sea at the foot of a hill, Where peace & tranquility can be perfectly still. Where a town is quite near yet you still need a car, Where the nearest is near & the furthest quite far. Where you can make your own pleasure indoors or outside, It's a perfect location & the options are wide. When the weather is harsh you've a room with a view. Never can it be said that there is nothing to do. It has its own cinema with a screen that's just right, Sit back in the seats and eat popcorn all night. Relax in the sauna where the music's piped in, It's the same in the bathroom designed for soaking. The kitchen is full of every gadget required, To cook any meal that you've ever desired. And when the weather's fair you have the whole of this land, Which, when put altogether makes the vacation most grand! Terry and Alison, September 2011
Tim and Phylida, Orkney September 2011 Lovely house - Lovely place Harris and we will return!! Walked to Eilean Glas, around Huisinis Peninsula. Went up the west coast to the Butt and saw the ancient monuments. Spent money on the way to the old kirk. The house was ideal for two!
Fiona and David, Glasgow October 2011 We've watched otters playing in the bay from the lounge window, and cosied up in front of the stove. We've seen eagles in flight, and had scones bigger than our heads at Hebrides Art. We did manage to visit quite a few of those places mentioned by previous guests - all of which lived up to the reviews. Sadly we're now heading back to Glasgow, already thinking about when we'll next be back in Harris! And as we head home with rosy cheeks and feeling ready to take on the world, we say a huge thanks to Catriona and Angus whose hospitality and thoughtfulness is second to none. This has been, quite simply the most relaxing cottage we have ever stayed in. What a find!"
Lori & Eric, New York August 2011 The only problem with this house is it isn’t ours. So we’ll have to do with borrowing it whenever we can. Congratulations on creating a luxurious, bright, comfortable and cozy home and thank you for making it available to us. We sat outside and watched 4 dolphins feeding in the bay for almost an hour – we thought we had already used up our fair share of enjoyment but on the second to last night, after a few hours on Husinis beach, we drove back to the house with a huge bright rainbow over the water – it lasted the whole trip. Magic? Thank you to Joan & Gordon for the assistance & lovely vegetables! All in all, a great holiday in a beautiful location in a luxurious house. - The best 2 weeks we’ve spent in a long time! .......for future guests we recommend - Lunch at Skoon Art Cafe. We went 3 times. A trip to Scalpay Linen, kind of hard to find but worth it. The hike from Huisinis beach to the other beach around the Sound of Scarp. The track is on the map. All the famous sites: Callanish, Carloway, St Clements Church etc. driving the entire Golden Road. Most especially - A trip to St Kilda - we went with Kilda Cruises and would definitely choose them again. If you get good weather it will be an unforgettable trip - even bad weather would have been fantastic.
Sally and Scott, East Sussex May 2011 The hardest part about staying at Sonas Cottage is the decision you will have to make, whether to stay in and indulge in a long soak in the massive roll top bath, watch a movie in your very own cinema, take a sauna, put on the log burner and settle in to rummage through some of the great books, or relax and put on some tunes on the sound system that fills every room in the house....or actually step outside into the incredible scenery to explore some of the best beaches you will ever see, wander into some of the random studios and galleries dotted around the island, shop for some tweed or just walk out to a friendly welcome at every corner, out into the peaceful landscape and enjoy. Treat yourself, we did. Was great. Wonderful honeymoon week in your luxurious cottage - first guests giving you and Harris 2 massive thumbs up....Thank you and well done. Saturday - Arrived on evening ferry to a very welcoming reception from Joan and John..... .....Retired to the cinema fresh from the brilliant shower wrapped in bathrobes to indulge in M&Ms and a movie. Sunday - Figured out the music system - brilliant, very jealous want one at home.... ....Having to look outside remembering where we are - finally dragging our happy selves out to explore.... ....it is a real pleasure to be welcomed by everyone in such a family way. ...The house has been a bit of luxury for us and we gave it a good go to try and use everything but leave with still more to see and do. Been great, thanks to all!
David and Ellie, Bearsden August 2011 What a fantastic home! Had a great time out and about but always looked forward to getting back to the house to relax - bath - sauna - cinema!! We have had a wonderful stay here and agree with the suggestions detailed in the previous pages. In particular we loved the Standing Stones and St. clements Church in Rodel. The beaches on the way to the church are fantastic. A trip to Scalpay is well worth it for the island and the views on the way there. Finally we also had a lovely meal in Hotel Hebrides in Tarbert. Thank you to Catriona and Angus for making our stay in Harris so memorable.
Steve and Lynn, Sunderland September 2011 Sunday - A strenuous walk over Ulabhal, Oireabhal and Cleisabhal - rewarded by beautiful views and a small herd of deer. Back down for a well earned drink in The Harris Hotel.
